We’re always delighted for the opportunity to celebrate crafting and this month we plan to stitch along with our spectacular roster of sewing instructors in honor of National Embroidery Month. We’re especially excited to be bringing you a brand-new PDF pattern from Lauren of Lark Rising – Orange Grove – featuring her signature dreamy style and in partnership with Joann Fabrics and DMC Thread.
If you’re new to the work of Lark Rising Embroidery, prepare yourself for thoughtfully designed patterns in gorgeous palettes, with a few surprises along the way. For those new to the craft, her Botanical Leaf Embroidery is an excellent introduction. You’ll learn how to transfer designs onto fabric, then how to combine straight stitching with satin stitches and the herringbone leaf stitch to create textural designs. If you’re looking for a more ambitious project, the Embroidered ABC Wall Hanging daily practice class helps you hone your chain stitching and results in the most charming alphabet sampler you’ve ever seen.
You can find all of Lauren’s classes here on her Creativebug artist page, but if you can’t wait to get started, be sure to download her free PDF Orange Grove pattern. This project uses DMC variegated cotton embroidery floss in juicy shades to make split stitch oranges and satin stitch blossoms. You’ll then use a satin stitch in leafy green shades to complete the composition. Finally, treat your piece like the work of art it is by carefully mounting, matting, and framing your work.
Are you on Instagram? We’d love to see photos of your work with this pattern! Share your finished pieces and works in progress, tagging it with @larkrising, @creativebug, @joann_stores, and @dmc_embroidery.
