Step 1: Draw Dad’s Face

Draw Dad’s face on the porcelain plates – I suggest sketching out a few designs first. You can keep the faces simple, using dots and straight lines for features, or customize them a bit more to make a true portrait. Add standout features like freckles or glasses, if you can (we used a small paint can as the template for our spectacles). We strongly encourage kids to draw the facial features which will make the gift that much more special and unique.

Tip: Keep a damp paper towel nearby — if you make a mistake with the pens, just wipe it off before it dries.

Step 2: Dry and Bake Plates

In order to make the plates water-resistant and dishwasher safe, allow them to air dry for 24 hours. Next, bake them in your over at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 minutes.

Step 3: Decorate with Food

Using whatever foods, sauces, and tools you’d like, turn your once-plain plate into dad. Add beards, hair, eyebrows, smiles — let the produce aisle be your oyster.
