Here at Creativebug, we like our upholstery with a side of queso.
We’ve been on location this week in Austin with the one and only Amanda Brown of Spruce Upholstery, filming upholstery classes that will release later this fall. Spruce is a rarity in the world of upholstery – instead of beer-bellied, crusty fellas working in a dusty studios (sorry for the generalization), Amanda and her team work out of an airy and downright pretty store and workshop that buzzes with possibility and beauty.
Amanda is known for taking vintage furniture and transforming it using beautiful, unexpected fabrics. She knows how to take something common and give it major oomph. Her tiny poodle Pixie has kept us company, surrounded by swatches of fabric, brightly colored vintage sofas and gorgeous lamps with patterned shades.
All week, Amanda has generously shared tips and tricks on building and upholstering custom furniture. Her book comes out this fall and she’s taking her skills on the road to teach a series of classes on swoon-able benches and lampshades.
Thanks, Amanda for showing us a good time in the Lone Star State.
