Miniature Arrow-Piercing-A-Heart cards.
The whole “heart-pierced with Cupid’s arrow” design is pretty classic V-day fodder, but this sweet little card puts a modern spin on the design. Plus, it uses wooden barbecue skewers, so you have lots of opportunities for terrible puns. You’re welcome.
Materials:
- Wooden barbecue skewers
- Paint
- Masking tape
- Felt
- Washi tape
- Paper
- Scissors
- Paint brush or sponge
- Hot glue gun & glue
ALL PRETTY BASIC STUFF, RIGHT? Right.
Step One: Cut your Skewers
Choose just how long you’d like Cupid’s arrows to be, and cut your skewers down to size. Use a pair of sturdy scissors, pruning shears, or just snap them off at the cut point.
Step Two: Paint Arrows
If you’re feeling fancy (and you definitely are because look at how much effort you’re putting into these adorable cards), add some color-blocking to your arrow shafts. Wrap some masking and/or washi tape around them at intervals and add paint. Allow arrows to dry completely.
Step Three: Add Details
Add an arrowhead and (again, if the fanciness bug has bit you), fletching to your arrow shafts. The arrowheads will be small hearts because hello, Valentine’s Day. Fold a piece of felt in half and cut several small heart halves on the fold. Make them as close to the same size as possible.
To cut fletching for your arrows, cut a small strip of fabric and add fringe to one side. And yes, this is exactly how traditional arrows are made as well.
Step Four: Glue Things On
Put a small drop of glue on one heart, then press the tip of the arrow against it. Add a drop of glue to the other heart and press them together.
To add the fletching, add a strip of glue along the end of the arrow, press them to the arrow shaft, and then do the same on the other side.
Omg, you made an arrow.
Step Five: Make the Card
Using a piece of stiff paper (or even felt), cut out a large heart. Cut two vertical slits and one horizontal slit to hold the arrow. Add a message about love and gooey stuff and someone is pretty much guaranteed to fall in love with you. That is, if they aren’t already.
