Edinburgh: dream vacation destination for knitters. Why? K1 Yarns.
K1 Yarns
K1 Knitting Boutique is a charming yarn and knit supply shop in Edinburgh, Scotland. Owner Katharine Walker (see picture below) is a lovely and skilled knitter herself who goes above and beyond to seek out the best, most unique knitting supplies.
Our good friend Cynde Wood is traveling there right now, and has sent back rave reviews of this cosy shop. Her words:
“Go to www.k1yarns.com to see her designs. I’m making the backward cardi with Old Town Edinburgh Tweed DK, a hand dyed Merino with flecks of Donegal wool. Sublime! Katharine has a random lace technique for fat-skinny yarn that I’ll be swiping from her for my own projects.”
Handmade in Scotland
Since K1 stocks mainly hand-dyed and locally-milled yarn, shopping there is a wonderful way to support Scottish artisans and traditional yarn production processes. K1 also offers classes and an excellent fabric selection for crafters whose textile skills go beyond knitting needles. If you can’t hop on over to Scotland quite yet, you can virtually visit K1 via Katharine’s blog, Kath and Jo.
Know of any other local yarn shops worth visiting? We’re looking up flights to Scotland right now.
