If you have a special someone (yes, cats included) in your life, consider making them a weird little creature for Valentine’s Day this year.
Nothing says “love” like a boxy rabbit holding a heart.
How to Make Valentine’s Day Softies
Materials
- Felt
- Embroidery floss (black for facial details, other colors are up to you)
- Scissors
- Needle
- Template download
- Stuffing
Step 1: Cut Out Shapes
First download your template and cut out the pattern. You can also make your own – there are pretty basic shapes.
Next, pin the template to your felt and cut out two of everything – body, arms, and legs.
Step 2: Add Facial Features
Add any facial features you’d like. We used French knots for eyes and a simple running stitch for the nose and mouth. Want to brush up on your embroidery skills? Check out Rebecca Ringquist‘s perfect intro class.
Now is also the time to sew in any ear or paw details.
Step 3: Sew Body
Now, put the body pieces on top of each other, wrong sides in. Pin the arms and legs into place.
Using ladder stitch, stitch around the body but leave a small gap along the way.
Step 3: Add Stuffing
Add stuffing to the body cavity and sew the final gap closed.
Step 4: Make it a Valentine
Okay guys – this part’s on you. Make a wee Valentine’s Day sign and attach it to a toothpick. Cut out a felt heart for your creature to hold.
