Creativebug Are you going to have several young children over to your house soon? Maybe your little one has a birthday coming up, or you’ve planned a sleepover (more like a stay-up-all-night-giggling-over, amiright), or your kid just has friends.
Who want to hang out for some reason.
In any case, if you want to keep the kids away from a screen and help them make something with their own two hands, we highly recommend throwing a Lumi kids party.
Here’s how it works:
Materials
- Kids
- 1 packet of Lumi Inkodye shadow printing ink per participant (it can stretch a little more than that, depending on the size of your projects)
- Fabric (we used canvas totes, but t-shirts, flags, pillowcases, and more will work just as well)
- Objects for designs (Stencils, leaves, kitchen utensils. Seriously, go nuts)
- Sunlight
Step 1: Gather the Children
Done? Okay.
Step 2: Paint the Fabric
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do this and the following step away from sunlight. You don’t want to expose your project to any serious light source until your pattern is perfectly arranged.
Following the directions on the Lumi package, open and apply the paint to the project. Use the packaging to evenly spread the paint.
Step 3: Make Your Design
Put your project on a stiff board or book so it will be easy to transport into the sunlight. Arrange leaves, necklaces, kitchen utensils, stencils — anything really — over the paint.
Step 4: Put Your Project in the Sun
Yes, it’s this easy.
Step 5: The Big Reveal
Take your pattern-making pieces off the project and see what’s been left behind.
This is when the kids make “impressed” noises. Or at least they should.
Step 6: Wash
Using Inkowash, remove the unexposed dye to prevent it from further developing.
