DIY Felt Mistletoe

Mistletoe: the bringer of holiday action.

Mistletoe: Does anyone actually have a ready source of picturesque little bunches?

Yeah. Me neither.

And since I like making out in doorways as much as the next person I decided to make my own mistletoe that can be easily reused year after year.

Materials

Felt (that should be obvious) in 2-3 shades of green
Scissors
Embroidery floss or baker’s twine
Wooden beads or white pom poms
Mistletoe template

Step 1: Print Templates and Cut Out Felt

Print out the template above and cut out the various mistletoe shapes. Or, heck, make your own. It’s not too hard. Cut out a few of the branches in different colors of felt. I used five in my bunches, but you could certainly use more.

Step 2: Tie Bunches Together

Using your embroidery floss, start to tie the bunches together. Leave a large loop at the top – this is what you’ll use to hang the mistletoe later. Leave a tail that you can use to tie off at the end.

Wrap the embroidery floss around the base of the branches.

Tie off the embroidery floss using the tail you left aside in the beginning.

Step 3: Add “Berries”

Add wooden beads or white pom poms as berries to dress up your mistletoe. Simply add them on the embroidery floss you’re wrapping around the base of the branches and tie them on.
