Visiting Lisa Congdon’s Studio

We escaped the city fog this week for a visit to the bright Oakland studio of artist and illustrator Lisa Congdon. In person, her sunny personality illuminates her bright and airy illustration style and artwork.

I felt a little like a snoop, taking pictures of all the gorgeous corners and vignettes. The layers of images, text and found objects – all artfully clustered – were irresistible.

One of the best things about visiting artists’ studios is the inspiration to come home and elevate the flotsam and jetsam of my everyday life. I certainly don’t have Lisa’s illustration skills, but I came home newly inspired to show off slightly battered family photos and weird baubles I’ve collected in a fresh way.

Lisa is downright inspiring and impressive on many levels, and we can’t wait to work more with her in the future – so stay tuned for more of this sassy and enormously talented lady.

  1. Lisa’s was the first Creativebug class I took, and I loved it! I’m a cardmaker and have already used Lisa’s line drawing techniques to make some great looking cards. I liked the way she organized this class, and I found her interesting and encouraging as a teacher.
