Quilters.

Sewists.

You guys.

Sue Nickels and her awesome sister Pat just won an extremely prestigious award — the top purchase award BERNINA of America Best Home Machine Workmanship Award, to be precise — with their Two of Us quilt, pictured above.

The quilt was the 2013 Block of the Month for TheQuiltShow.com (an online quilt magazine). Pat designed and pieced, Sue designed, appliqued, and machine quilted. (*cough* These are the techniques Sue teaches in her Creativebug classes. *cough*)

They were contest winners at AQS QuiltWeek® in Paducah, Kentucky, where there are over 400 quilts exhibited and 6 top purchase awards.. Not only do they now get to brag about being big-shot quilters, but their winning quilt will be featured in the next issue of American Quilter magazine and will go into the permanent collection of The National Quilt Museum.

Sue and Pat in Paducah

We’re pretty sure it’s impossible to be in a bad mood while looking at that quilt.

We’re excited for both of them, and this also reinforces the fact that we (Creativebug) get to hang out with the coolest people ever.

If you’re equally motivated to knock out some quilting projects, you can learn machine quilting basics from Sue on our site, or stay tuned for a mother-daughter quilting class from Sue and her daughter Ashley. It’s coming soon and yes, it’s fantastic.

Congrats, Sue and Pat. Your family is chock-full of talented quilters.
